Mesothelioma – Cancer from Asbestos

Mesothelioma asbestos contamination is a serious problem, which affects around 14 people out of every million in the United States alone. Alone this percentage may not sound very high, it adds up to around 2000 to 3000 new cases each year.

Worse still, mesothelioma asbestos poisoning is very serious indeed. In fact, it is usually fatal, causing death within a relatively short time of diagnosis. Around half of all patients survive no more than a year. However, if particularly aggressive treatment is administered, cancer can be contained a little longer, and many patients survive two years or more. Luckily, treatments are gradually improving, although progress is slow, and many patients now survive for five years of more.

While this is encouraging, there is no doubt that mesothelioma asbestos infection is a very serious matter indeed for those who are affected. The disease is usually caused by prolonged exposure to asbestos, which was formerly used in the construction industry as an insulating material.

Believe it or not, the industry has been well aware of the mesothelioma asbestos problems for many years but chose to put profit before the safety of workers and inhabitants.

If you believe that you may have been affected by mesothelioma asbestos cancer, you should seek the advice and help of a qualified lawyer as soon as you possibly can. You may well be entitled to compensation, to make up for the loss of health – and perhaps even life itself – which may result from this terrible disease.
